I finally signed up on metafilter
I finally ponied up the $5 U.S. dollars and got an account on metafilter.
It’s weird. Metafilter recently celebrated it’s 10th birthday. The weird thing, is that I’m pretty sure I’ve been reading metafilter longer than that. The reason I know this is because where I work, there are multiple buildings, and I’ve been moved around a bit, and I remember the dates. For instance, sometime in 1999, I moved into one particular building. By then, I’d already been reading metafilter.org — dot org, not dot com — for awhile. I still have an old html file that I used as my home page that has metafilter.org, on it, so I know I’m not hallucinating.
So I’ve been reading metafilter for pretty much its entire existence, and possibly even longer than that, and I finally got an account. I’ve tried to get an account a few times before, but for awhile there, they weren’t taking new accounts. And the idea of paying $5 for something off the internets…. but, ok. Metafilter reminds me a bit of NPR, in that respect. Totally worth it.
So, I guess I’m a long time reader, first time subscriber.
Howdy metafilter. I’ll try not to make a nuisance of myself.
